Indian-origin Randeep Dhillon wants to “make California affordable again.”
Dr. Randeep S. Dhillon is one of the lesser-known Republican candidates for California’s gubernatorial primary who wants to make the state more affordable. When he released campaign videos ahead of the June primary, he was mocked for his English, and the MAGA party on social media distanced itself from the Republican because of his Indian heritage.
“Meet Randeep Dhillon, who is running for Governor of California. His latest campaign ad shows him barely speaking English, while claiming to somehow want to fix literacy in California. No, this is not satire. Yes, this is very real,” said one social media post, sharing Dhillon’s recent video where he talked about literacy. If he wins, Dillon said, he will recognize children who maintain a GPA level of 3.87, 3.93, support the purchase of their first car after they graduate from school, and will receive a $505 credit.
There will be a waiver of registration fees for the first year, Dillon said, unveiling his MACA plan. Another social media user said: “This guy is working on fixing literacy in California but he can’t speak English in the ad. This is real.” “It’s almost funny but very troubling. Who lets these people run for office?” one wrote. One wrote in defense of Dillon, urging people not to judge him by the way he speaks: “He may not sound eloquent, but he’s addressing something most people ignore. And that’s what actually matters.”
Many suggested that he was openly trying to buy votes by promising free cars to 16-year-olds.
