Gurumurthy is the Member of Parliament from Tirupati.

In a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Gurumurthy highlighted that Tirupati, home to the revered Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, witnesses heavy passenger traffic throughout the year comprising pilgrims, senior citizens and middle-income families.

“Flight fares on the Hyderabad-Tirupati route remain disproportionately high despite strong and sustained demand from passengers, warranting urgent intervention by the Centre,” Gurumurthy said in the letter.

He pointed out that prices from Hyderabad to cities such as Goa, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai ranged between $2500 and $7,000, while the Hyderabad-Tirupati sector recorded average non-stop prices between $6600 and $9500, touch sometime $14500.

Citing operational data, the MP said the route handled over 11.8 lakh passengers and nearly 13,400 trips between April 2025 and March 2026, while March alone recorded 88,405 passengers with 864 trips, with an average of 17 daily arrivals.

He pointed out that the number of larger aircraft operating on this route has decreased from five to two, with the increased deployment of smaller aircraft, which is likely to limit seat capacity and contribute to higher prices.

Gurumurthy said the pricing trend is against the objectives of the government’s Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik scheme, which aims to make air travel affordable and accessible to the general public.

He urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation to direct airline operators to rationalize tariff structures, especially during peak periods, increase flight frequencies, and deploy higher capacity aircraft to better align supply with demand.
