When Asha Bhosle sang the lyrics of the song “Engagement” and revealed how she was inspired by Middle Eastern songs

In an unforgettable moment on India’s Best Dancer, the legendary Asha Bhosle shared an interesting anecdote about the last-minute changes to her beloved song ‘Engagement’. The music director asked her to add gasps to evoke the feeling of a girl who had been seized, which prompted her to add Middle Eastern melodies to the song.

Over the years, legendary singer Asha Bhosle has worked on some of the most iconic and legendary songs that are still remembered and sung by many to this day. From ‘Chura Liya Hai tumne Jo’, ‘Abhi Na Jao Chodhkar’ and ‘Kajra Mohabbat Wala’ to songs like ‘Khalas’, the famous singer has worked on a lot of projects spanning over 8 decades.

In one of her old appearances on India’s Best Dancer, she opened up about how she worked on one of her most popular songs, ‘Engagement’.

During her appearance on India’s Best Dancer, Asha Bhosle sat as a guest judge. She opened up about how she works on some of her songs. Sharing her experience, the legendary singer revealed that at the last minute, she was asked to change her voice while singing ‘Engagement’.She also gave some context and added, “Music director ne kaha ki yeh gana…ladki ko aise karna hai, waise karna hai, log usko pakad rahe hai….tum dar gai ho…toh gaane me (gasp) aise karnapada” (The music director told me that in the song, the girl is walking here and there and gets caught, and he said that I will have to add the moments in the song.)She then had to restructure the entire song, which alarmed the director, who shared concerns about how she would sing the word “engagement.”

Bosley said at the time that she had to think a lot, and then she was inspired by the way Middle Eastern countries sing and make songs. She then sang the lyrics of the song, surprising everyone on set. She hilariously added that the original version sounds like Marathi Lavani music, making everyone laugh at her comment.

The famous singer died on April 12, after being admitted to the hospital due to exhaustion and a chest infection. She suffered complications and died due to multiple organ failure. The icon was a force to be reckoned with, and had over 12,000 songs under her belt.
