Britney Spears has entered a treatment facility following her DUI arrest last month.

Spears’ rep confirmed Hollywood Reporter The singer entered rehab voluntarily on Sunday.

Spears, 44, was arrested on March 4 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was released from jail the next day in Southern California, according to the Ventura County Police Department. The singer is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 in Ventura County Superior Court.

“This was an unfortunate and completely unjustified incident,” a Spears representative said. Spears has previously admitted to having problems with substances and briefly entered rehab at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads facility in Antigua in 2007 after a series of public incidents, including shaving her head. In January 2008, in the midst of a bitter and very public custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline, the singer faced numerous mental health challenges and was hospitalized twice under a temporary psychiatric evaluation ruling, including after an incident in which she allegedly refused to hand over her sons in a standoff with police.

Hospitalizations in January 2008 led to a temporary save that became permanent later that year. The conservatorship left the singer’s father, Jamie Spears, in charge of making decisions regarding her career, as well as her real estate and financial affairs.

After 13 years, Spears was finally released from the conservatorship in September 2021 following a high-profile “Free Britney” campaign from fans and high-profile celebrities.
