A live donor heart was transported over 98 km from Rohtak to the national capital in 85 minutes through a green corridor constructed on April 9, an official statement said.

She said the green corridor, facilitated by Delhi Police and Rohtak Police, enabled the ambulance to cover the distance between 2.50 pm and 4.15 pm, ensuring that the heart remained viable during the critical time window.
According to the statement issued by Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Okla, the organ was recovered from a 37-year-old brain-dead donor at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in PTB Sharma, Rohtak, and was shifted to Delhi Hospital for transplantation.
The recipient, a 26-year-old patient with advanced dilated cardiomyopathy, underwent a successful transplant and is currently undergoing close monitoring in the intensive care unit, the statement said.
“This case highlights the importance of precise coordination and timely organ transfer to ensure successful heart transplants,” said Dr ZS Meherwal, Head, Adult CTVS, Fortis Escorts, Okhla.
The donor was found unconscious and admitted to PGIMS Rohtak with intracranial hemorrhage and was later declared brain dead. The family agreed to donate organs, allowing several life-saving organ transplants to be performed.
According to the statement, the lungs were sent to a hospital in Gurugram, while the liver and pancreas were allocated to AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi.
She added that the kidney and cornea were kept at PGIMS Rohtak.
