Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of moving the ‘tukde tukde’ gang or alleged separatist supporters from the streets to Parliament, as he campaigned for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal’s Siliguri as it heads to the polls.

He described the Siliguri corridor, which connects the northeast with the rest of the country, as crucial to India’s security and added that the TMC wanted to appease its vote bank. “There is a tukde tukde gang in this country. They have threatened to separate the northeast from the rest of India. The TMC took these people from the streets to Parliament,” he said without elaborating.
The BJP coined the phrase “tukde tukde gang” after a confrontation between a group of left-leaning students and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (ABVP) student wing, at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi in 2016. The ABVP alleged that the left-leaning students chanted slogans to divide the country into parts, leading to arrests on sedition charges. Fees.
Modi said Siliguri, a major city in north Bengal, must be protected at all costs. He described the TMC as an “anti-North Bengal party” and said the February state budget embodies this. Citing the allocation of schools this year, he added that the allocations to North Bengal were not adequate during the 15-year TMC rule.
Modi said that the TMC is only working on appeasement. “There was celebration in Kolkata when floods hit north Bengal [in October 2025]. Modi said the TMC is anti-tea garden, anti-north Bengal, anti-tribal, anti-women and anti-youth.
He said that the demographics of West Bengal had changed during the TMC rule. “Dialects and customs are changing. It will be too late if this is not stopped now. Let the lotus go.” [BJP’s election symbol] Bloom, expel intruders. These elections will decide the future of Bengal, Modi said.
Modi wondered whether the TMC could provide a full description of its development projects. “However, he is asking the Center to account for every penny he sends. Let the TMC hear this clearly. The BJP will form the government after May 4 and will seek to hold the TMC accountable for 15 years,” Modi said. The TMC villains were accused of plundering funds sent for social welfare projects.
Modi cited the alleged assault on a pregnant woman from the Munda tribal community in her village in Vansidwa in December 2025, and said the women of Bengal must be protected. “We have pledged to ensure legal protection for them. There will be more women police stations. There will be more women in the police force. The TMC has looted money from projects meant for women,” Modi said.
“Our government will make a deposit $3000 in each woman’s bank account without requesting a commission. No one can take this money away. “This is Modi’s guarantee,” he said, referring to the promise made by the BJP in its election manifesto for the April 23-29 Bengal elections.
In February, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee increased the monthly financial assistance to women under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme by $500, raise it to $1500 for general category and $1700 for Scheduled Castes and Tribal Communities.
Modi pointed to the BJP candidates on the stage and said: “They are all Modi. Vote for them, and you will vote for me.”
He said that the TMC always throws a wrench into development projects. “The east-west corridor is one example of this. It is supposed to connect Porbandar to the northeast,” Modi said.
Modi said North Bengal produces tea and accused the TMC of destroying it. “In Assam, the BJP government has ensured education for the children of tea plantation workers. We will do the same here. We will give the workers rights to land, power and hospitals,” Modi said.
Mamata Banerjee confronted Modi at a rally in Asansol. “The chairs of Prime Minister and Home Minister have some value. How can they tell so many lies? I have given land rights to tea garden workers. I started Cha Sundari Prakalpa,” he said. [welfare project for tea garden workers]. How can the Prime Minister tell so many lies? “If you want to fight, confront me, Modi bhai,” Banerjee said.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, who held three rallies on Sunday in Bankura and East Midnapur districts, said people were no longer offering prayers on roads in his state. “There is no noise in the mosques,” he said. “In the past, we saw nothing but chaos in Uttar Pradesh. The mafia had freedom of movement. There were riots, curfews and corruption.”
