Shepard recounted how Dane eventually expressed his affection, cementing their friendship.

During one of his conversations with CNN, the famous star touched on the topic of his friendship with Eric Dane, who passed away earlier this month due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He revealed that the two were not close friends at first, and even hated each other. However, at AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings, the two began to bond and became close.
Speaking about his friend and fellow actor, Shepard shared, “Eric Dane, I can say now that I met in recovery and we hated each other. I hated him! I thought he was a bit of a bully. We were in a meeting [and] He threatened a younger member of the group, and this had been simmering for a long time, so I said, “Let’s go.”

During AA meetings, the “Employee of the Month” actor revealed that they were honest about their painful upbringing. He revealed what happened to Dane’s father and how they both grew up without a father figure in their lives. “This little boy had grown up without a father, just as I had grown up without a father, and he was very much looking for male validation, and it took all these forms that I hated. And I’m sure he hated me,” he added. Shepard had once told the “Euphoria” actor how one of his stocks at a meeting was his favorite, and a similar comment followed up a few weeks later. He provided context, adding: “Maybe a week or two later, one of his stock said, ‘I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I think I’ve fallen in love with Dax.’
And then we became friends.”Eric Dane previously revealed that he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in April last year. He had shared that more than a year ago, he started showing symptoms, after which he was recently diagnosed. Dane died in February of this year. He was 53 years old at the time of his death.
