Reactions are pouring in to President Donald Trump’s lengthy “Social Truth” post Thursday, in which he took out several members of the online MAGA sphere — once again attacking Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly, while going after Candace Owens in a personal draw with him and mocking Alex Jones — all of whom have recently emerged as voices of opposition to the war in Iran.
Trump’s latest message follows a war of words centered on Iran with Carlson, the former CNN and Fox News host who now has a large audience on his daily podcast of the same name. At 482 words, the president’s post stunned four of the biggest names in the MAGA-compliant online comment space.
After Carlson received repeated criticism from the president last week, he was called a “tasteless idiot.” Kelly was rebuked again over a decade-old debate question about Trump’s criticisms of women. Rising star Owens has been ridiculed for the conspiracy theory that French First Lady Brigitte Macron was born a man – with Trump adding that Owens is less attractive – while Jones has been torpedoed for losing his fortune in a major legal case brought by the parents of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting over Jones’ claim that the tragedy was a hoax. Trump’s individual attacks came on the heels of a blanket statement mocking all four podcast hosts.
“They are losers, just trying to hold on to MAGA,” Trump wrote on Truth Social before launching into a series of personal insults.
Reaction came quickly from Owens and Carlson, both of whom questioned the president’s mental state. Owens reposted the message, adding: “Maybe it’s time to put my grandfather in a home.”
Owens and Jones recently called for Trump’s removal from office. Meanwhile, Jones responded to an Easter morning post in which Trump called for Iran to be wiped out if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened, calling it “sounding like a supervillain from a Marvel comic.”
In a post on Thursday, Trump wrote that Jones “says some of the dumbest things” and reiterated his view that the hosts — who all supported his re-election bid and helped hype his return to the White House — are “losers.”
“These so-called ‘critics’ are the losers, and always will be!” books.
In response, Jones said in a video that he misses “the old Trump who accomplished a lot of good things… but at the end of the day, I feel sorry for him,” adding that the Iran war is a “total disaster.”
The Trump administration’s military action in Iran — and the four critics’ criticism of the decision-making process as the situation reached a stalemate this week — served as the catalyst for a strongly worded post on Thursday. The president has faced growing criticism not only from these figures but also from segments of his base, many of whom see foreign intervention as inconsistent with the MAGA agenda and a betrayal of his campaign promise to keep the United States out of foreign conflicts.
Trump emphasized: “As president, I can have them on my side any time I want.” “But when they call, I don’t answer their calls because I’m too busy with global and country affairs.”
Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene also angered Trump. One of the most powerful MAGA stars has parted ways with the president after defending Jeffrey Epstein’s victims amid the administration’s decision to withhold a trove of documents. Trump referred to her as “nasty” and “traitorous Marjorie” Brown.
“I fought alongside Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones to help elect Trump,” Greene responded shortly after the post went live. “And now he’s going hysterical, attacking us all in one post. We’ve never changed – Trump has changed.”
Beyond those directly targeted, reaction to Trump’s post was widely negative. In a video, white supremacist Nick Fuentes praised the post while using a racial epithet in his comment.
Others argue that the explosion may ultimately benefit the MAGA media ecosystem by increasing traffic and interest in its biggest figures. Whether this attention is welcome is secondary to what appears to be a deep – and perhaps irreparable – rift on the political right.
“MAGA’s goal is about winning and being strong in not allowing Iran to have nuclear weapons,” Trump wrote. “MAGA’s goal is to make America great again, and these people have no idea how to do that.”
