Artemis 2 has completed its flyby of the Moon, and with that, the crew is scheduled to return to Earth on Friday, April 10. The team – made up of astronauts Reed Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina KochAnd a Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen– They orbited the moon and captured stunning images from their vantage point, helping to pave the way for the future of space exploration. Astronomy enthusiasts back home are counting down the seconds until Artemis II lands and want to know how they can set the time to witness the historic moment.

Koch and Glover made history as the first black woman and man, respectively, to fly by the Moon, though neither focused on their individual accomplishments. Before setting off, team members stressed the importance of their group’s effort.

“It’s not about celebrating one individual,” Koch noted during the crew’s pre-launch press conference. “If there’s anything worth celebrating, it’s that we’re in a time where anyone with a dream has to work just as hard to achieve that dream. If we’re not striving for everyone and by everyone, then we’re not truly answering all of humanity’s call to exploration.”

Glover echoed Koch’s sentiments, saying, “I live in this dichotomy between happiness where a young woman can look at Christina and just embody her passions or interests…and that little brown boys and girls can look at me and say, ‘Hey, he looks like me, and what does he do?’ And that’s great. I love that.”

“But I also hope that we push the other direction, that one day we won’t have to talk about these beginnings, that this is human history, the story of humanity, not black history, not women’s history.”

Wiseman also had an emotional moment during their mission. He and his crew named the moon’s crater after his late wife. carol Weisman, Who died of breast cancer in 2020. She had two daughters, Ellie and Katie.
