Moreover, Deputy Chief Minister Udhyanidhi Stalin also campaigned in Chennai’s Tri-Assembly constituency.

Polling for the one-phase Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on April 23, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.

The main contest is expected to be between the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) led by the DMK, which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the AIADMK with allies of the BJP and PMK. Actor-turned-politician Vijay is also set to make his election debut with TVK, which could turn the contest into a three-way battle.

Earlier on Tuesday, CM Stalin interacted with residents of Sirkazhi town in Mayiladuthurai district as part of an early morning awareness drive for the elections, where he directly interacted with voters and sought support for the DMK-led alliance.

Stalin took a morning walk through the Sarkazi town area, where he stopped at a small café, interacted with locals, and called for votes for the DMK and its allies. The Prime Minister was seen drinking tea with residents, exchanging greetings and holding informal talks.

Large numbers of people gathered along the road to catch a glimpse of him, many taking selfies and expressing their support.

Meanwhile, earlier, he had also alleged that the BJP-led Central government’s policies like One Nation, One Election, GST and constituency reshuffle pose a “threat” to the state’s rights, and that “only the DMK can stop them”.

The DMK chief also highlighted the government’s schemes and alleged that the AIADMK has “destroyed” Tamil Nadu.

“Palaniswami said he joined the BJP to cover up his mistakes. The BJP did not undertake any major project for Tamil Nadu and the bridge built near Chidambaram was damaged due to poor quality. The Dravidian 2.0 model government should be reconstituted. The DMK was able to fulfill its promises. Welfare schemes like free electricity and free bus travel for women will be stopped if the NDA comes to power. Central government policies like One Nation elections, CM Stalin said that increasing GST and constituency reshuffle are a threat to state rights, and only the DMK can stop them.
