In a new interview, Ian McKellen, who co-stars with Depp in the upcoming film Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, expressed that he fell in love with Johnny Depp while filming the film.

In an interview with Variety magazine, during the premiere of The Christophers, McKellen, praising Johnny Depp, said: “He’s in very good shape. Edgy, funny, irreverent, serious, all at the same time. It was a bit of a love fest, really. I fell in love with him. He’s very indebted to his fellow actors. (There was) a great feeling on set.”

Depp plays Ebenezer Scrooge in the remake, his first major Hollywood role in nearly eight years.
He last appeared in 2018’s “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” and was later removed from the franchise after losing a libel case against The Sun, which branded him a “wife beater” following allegations from his ex-wife Amber Heard. After a US jury in 2022 found that both Depp and Heard had defamed each other.Since then, Depp has appeared in several independent films, including Minamata and Jeanne du Barry. His next film, Day Drinker directed by Marc Webb with Penelope Cruz, is expected to be released later this year.
Ian McKellen’s latest project
As for McKellen, the 86-year-old veteran actor is currently promoting Steven Soderbergh’s black comedy “The Christophers,” in which he stars alongside Michaela Coel and James Corden. He plays a famous English painter, whose estranged children hire a forger (Cowell) to act as his assistant and complete his unfinished works for sale after his death.
