As previously reported, Michael’s wife, Naomi, confirmed that his diagnosis with motor neurone disease caused his condition to decline and ultimately his death.
In her statement on Instagram, Naomi paid tribute to her late husband for being “an inspiration to everyone who was lucky enough to connect with him, not just in the last few years during his illness but every day of his life.”
She continued: “He lived a full life that no human being could possibly live. Joy, abundance of spirit, and infectious laughter. A giant man with red hair.” “We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us over the last few years. Mick loved this quote from Brendan Behan, and it seems so relevant now: ‘The most important things to do in the world are to have something to eat, something to drink, and someone to love you’. So, don’t overthink it. Eat. Drink. Love.”
The couple started a GoFundMe campaign in December 2025 to help pay for Michael’s tracheostomy. The fundraiser raised $100,000.
