Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government’s decision to make Amaravati the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh, alleging that Naidu is focusing exclusively on the city in expectation of receiving kickbacks and indulging in corruption.

“On the capital issue, we offered a workable solution: Visakhapatnam as the executive capital, Kurnool as the judicial capital, and Amravati as the legislative capital… Instead, we proposed to develop a growth corridor, Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur, under the MAVIGON concept. Instead of spending $2 million on Amaravati alone, even 10% of which could have created job capital and economic engine instantly. But Chandrababu rejected these ideas and focused only on Amaravati because of the alleged kickbacks and corruption.”
The YSRCP chief claimed that Amaravati is being turned into an instrument of massive financial exploitation, with construction costs being fixed at $14,000 per square foot, unlike major cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru, where costs range around $4,500 per square foot.
Moreover, contracts were allegedly awarded to relatives and suspects, with thousands of crores already released with the development of the city.
“Amaravati is being turned into an instrument of massive financial exploitation. In major cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru, construction costs are approx. $4,500 per square foot. But in Amaravati, costs are fixed at $14,000 per square foot. Contracts are being awarded to relatives and alleged Benamis, with thousands of crores being released as mobilization progresses. If this situation continues, how will the state generate revenues? Reddy added: What will happen to the middle class and the poor?
Reddy’s remarks come in the wake of the publication of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Official Gazette. The law, which recently received the President’s assent, officially makes Amaravati the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.
While sharing the gazette circular on X, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that “the capital of Andhra Pradesh is Amaravati”.
CM N Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the recognition of Amaravati as the state’s sole capital, expressing his gratitude to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a post on For my people in Andhra Pradesh, especially the farmers in Amaravati.”
