The United Arab Emirates launches the world’s first U6 GHz high-speed internet network/representative image
The UAE has taken a major step in internet technology by launching the world’s first commercial 6 GHz (U6 GHz) network. The announcement was made during the SAMENA Council Leaders Summit 2026, where the rollout was led by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA).Simply put, this new network is designed to make Internet connections faster, smoother and more reliable, especially as more people use data-intensive applications and services.
What is U6 GHz?
The U6 GHz band, which operates between 6425-7125 MHz, is often called the “golden spectrum” because it provides strong coverage and high speed. It’s in the range that can handle large amounts of data without slowing down.Through this network, users can see speeds of up to 10 Gbps for downloads and 1 Gbps for uploads under advanced 5G technology.
This means faster downloads, smoother streaming, and better performance for apps that rely on real-time data, including those powered by AI.The new system is also expected to play a role in future 6G technology, making it an important step forward and not just a short-term upgrade.
Why does it matter?
As more services move online and technologies such as artificial intelligence grow, the demand for a faster, more stable Internet is growing.
The U6 GHz network aims to handle this demand, providing low- and high-speed connectivity for everyday use and advanced digital applications. The launch was supported by global technology companies such as Huawei, Nokia and GSMA, along with UAE telecom operators du and e&.Development has progressed over the past few years. The U6 GHz spectrum was allocated to mobile services in 2024, followed by field tests in 2025 that achieved speeds of up to 10 Gbps. In 2026, the network has now moved to commercial publication.
