Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. movie Fools It is getting a new title before its theatrical release.
The independent film company announced Tuesday that Macon Blair’s comedy will be released theatrically under the title Idiots On August 28th. Mason Thames, Peter Dinklage, Kiernan Shipka, and Nicholas Braun round out the cast for the film, which premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
Idiots The film revolves around Mark (Franco) and Davis (Jackson), a pair of laborers who are hired to accompany a wealthy teenager (Tims) to a rehabilitation center.
Blair (Toxic avenger) He directed the film from his own script. He is producing the film alongside Franco, Alex Orr, Brandon James, Nathan Klinger, Ford Corbett, Joshua Harris and Mark Fasano. Executive producing is Jackson, Jatin Desai, Greg Friedman, Danny McBride, Jody Hill, David Gordon Green, Jeremy Saulnier, David Gendron, Ali Jazayeri, and Thomas Mann.

During a conversation with Hollywood Reporter At Sundance, the film’s team described feeling connected to the title Fools. Blair recalls coming up with the name to Orr before writing the script, which made the producer laugh. The director explained: “I became attached to him, and I became unable to stay away from him, so he just stuck.”
Franco added: “We were waiting for someone along the way to tell us we couldn’t do it. But now we’re here. It’s there. You can’t change it now.”
In his Sundance review of Fools to THRCritic Richard Lawson wrote that “the film develops a magnetic appeal” and added: “Blair keeps the bizarre comedy coming, but he also allows the film to indulge in moments of contemplative thought, in difficult philosophy.”
