An IndiGo plane sustained minor damage after a catering truck hit the engine at Kolkata airport on Tuesday, HT has learnt.

The accident occurred when the plane was parked on the runway at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. This resulted in the plane sustaining minor damage.
An IndiGo spokesperson said: “An unmanned external vehicle moved onto the apron and came into contact with an IndiGo aircraft parked at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata on April 7, 2026. The relevant authorities have been informed.”
The statement added: “The aircraft is grounded for comprehensive checks and necessary maintenance work before it is allowed to operate. We will work closely with the authorities to investigate this matter. The aircraft was scheduled to operate flight 6E 6663 from Kolkata to Guwahati. An alternative aircraft has been arranged to operate the flight.”
The latest incident comes almost two months after an Air India plane bound for New York damaged an engine after sucking up a container on its return to Delhi.
The accident occurred in January, when the plane, while heading to the apron, swallowed a cargo container, causing severe damage to the engine.
