Soldier arrives at Louisiana base for training, ICE arrests his Honduran wife who was brought to US as toddler

The wife of Army Sergeant Matthew Blank was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as soon as he arrived at his base in Louisiana.

23-year-old Matthew Blank and his newlywed wife, Annie Ramos, arrived at the Louisiana base where Matthew was about to begin his training for deployment as an Army Staff Sergeant. But Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested his wife of 22 years, calling her an undocumented Honduran who entered the United States illegally when she was a young child.

Blank said he knew his wife did not have the correct documents but they said they hired a lawyer before their marriage to ensure she had citizenship. Blank said Ramos was handcuffed and dragged and is now being held in a detention center for possible deportation. The New York Times reported that they married in March. “Our plan was to drive up and bring her to the office to get her military ID and activate her military spouse benefits,” such as health and life insurance, Banks said.

“She was going to move in after the Easter break. Instead, she was taken away from me.”

She was arrested while trying to enter a military base

The Department of Homeland Security said Ramos was arrested after she “attempted to enter a military base.” “She has no legal status to be in this country, and the judge has issued a final order for her deportation,” the statement read. “This administration will not ignore the rule of law.”Ramos in 2020 applied for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, a program that protects undocumented people brought to the United States as children from deportation.

Her application was never processed by the Trump administration because the program was discontinued for new applicants. On April 2, the couple and Plank’s parents headed to the base where they had a 2 p.m. appointment. They presented Ramos’ birth certificate, Honduran passport, marriage license, and military ID to Sergeant Blank for official business. An official asked them about Ramos’ visa or green card. They reported that their lawyer was preparing to file a green card application. The host became upset and began making a flurry of calls, resulting in agents dragging the wife out of the office.
