The Left Front, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has released a list of 239 candidates for 294 seats in the upcoming elections. The West Bengal Assembly elections, which will be held in two phases – on April 23 and April 29 – and the counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4.
The list has a mix of old and new faces, with some notable names like Sabina Yasmin, the mother of a 9-year-old girl who died in a bomb blast last year during the Kaliganj Assembly by-poll.
The party initially announced a list of 192 candidates, then a second list of 32 candidates, followed by a third list of 15 candidates. previously, “Our list is not complete yet, everything will become clear in due course,” Minister of State for CPI (M) Mohamed Saleem said.
Among the 32 candidates announced in the second list, there is one candidate from the Revolutionary Socialist Party, three from the Revolutionary Communist Party, and the remaining 28 from the Revolutionary Communist Party (M).
In the party’s third list, 13 out of 15 candidates are from the Communist Party of India (Maoist), while two are from the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB).
