Delhiites woke up to overcast skies on Sunday, April 5, with light rain falling in parts of east and north-east Delhi, including Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Seelampur, Shahdara, Vivek Vihar and Preet Vihar, as well as in NCR areas such as Hindon Air Force Station. Cloudy conditions are expected to continue throughout the day, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Daytime temperatures are likely to remain below normal, with maximums expected to range between 30°C and 32°C, the IMD said. The minimum temperature is expected to range between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius.
Conditions are expected to remain “generally cloudy” on April 5, and there will be “possibility of very light rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds of 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph” in Delhi, though no alert has been issued. Conditions will remain the same as on April 6, but cloud cover and light rain are expected to return on April 7 and 8, the IMD said.
Northwest India to experience rain and thunderstorms
According to the IMD, an active Western Disturbance continues to influence weather across northwest India, bringing rain, thunderstorms and possible hailstorm activity. Another weather system is expected to impact the region from April 7-8, when activity will likely be at its peak.
Successive systems are likely to bring widespread cloud cover, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds across several states, with peak activity again expected from April 7.
Rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in neighboring parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. In Kashmir Valley, isolated heavy rain is expected today.

The IMD has issued orange alerts for several districts across the states, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (40-60 kmph) and moderate rainfall in the next few hours. The affected areas include parts of Uttar Pradesh such as Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, and Agra; Haryana districts including Ambala and Panchkula; And areas of Punjab like Chandigarh, Patiala and Saas Nagar.
Authorities advised residents in affected areas to remain cautious, avoid taking shelter under trees or weak buildings, limit non-essential travel, and follow local guidelines as weather conditions may change quickly.
