He is accused of cutting the throat of his 20-year-old wife, Carla Rangel, during a domestic dispute in Dallas.According to officials, the couple had been married for less than a month at the time of the accident. When police arrived at the scene, they found Mendez-Marin covered in blood and a blood-stained pocket knife.Body camera footage cited in the arrest affidavit shows him telling officers in Spanish, “I didn’t do anything bad” and “I was forced to do this.”Following the arrest, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it submitted a request to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), asking local authorities not to release the suspect from custody. Mendez-Marin is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail under the care of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
Acting Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, Loren Pace, issued a statement on the issue. “This depraved animal killed his wife just one month after their marriage by brutally slitting her throat with a pocket knife,” she said. “This illegal alien should never have been allowed into our country to commit this heinous murder.”“Immigration and Customs Enforcement has asked authorities in Dallas not to release this cold-blooded killer onto the streets. Fortunately, politicians in Dallas are cooperating with ICE, so together we can ensure this killer is never released into American communities,” she added.
