Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, ‘Dhuandhar: The Revenge’ created buzz at the box office last week after it officially surpassed ‘Baahubali 2: The Revenge’ to become the highest-grossing film at the North American box office. After the spy thriller was hailed by social media for setting a new benchmark for Indian cinema abroad, Rana Daggubati, who plays the lead role in the film, shared her thoughts. Reacting to a Bollywood film that has raised the bar at the box office, with a collection of US$ 24.39 million so far, Daggubati welcomed a new milestone at the box office.

In a conversation with Variety India, Rana said, “It’s good. It’s been a decade, but it’s still very good.
“I think we’re still touching the tip of the iceberg.”‘Dhurandhar 2’, with its impressive two-week collection in the US, beat ‘Baahubali 2”s estimated US$20.80 million. The film held the record for more than nine years.Looking at the bigger picture, Daggubati shared, “You will have Baahubalis, you will have Dhurandhars, you will have all these cinemas, but personal cinema will be able to resonate everywhere.”

Championing the cause of local cinema and stories, he added: “I think Korean cinema did that to the extent that they took something that was very local to their culture and told it. America did that beautifully in its early times, where we know more about American history than Indian history, just because of the cinema they made.”The actor also pointed to the growing global appeal of Indian cinema and stories.
Talking about the Malayalam film about nurses working in Bombay, he shared that although the film was a reasonable success in India, it has become a global phenomenon. “France’s collections alone will be four times that of India’s collections. So, our local stories resonate in different parts of the world because there is a human understanding of them,” he said and added that it is time for Indian filmmakers to find the best cinematic language and move forward.
‘Dhurandhar 2’ is chasing ‘Baahubali 2’ globally Box office record
At the global box office, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has already crossed the Rs 1,500 crore mark. The film, which has entered its third week at the box office, is already on track to beat the lifetime box office record of ‘Pushpa 2’ with Rs 1,742 crore and the record of ‘Baahubali 2’ with Rs 1,788 crore as it sets its sights on becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. However, it will also have to beat out Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’, which still holds the top spot with a total revenue of Rs 2,070 crore.
