The actress died at the age of 31, a few days after giving birth to her son, Prateek. Smita was married to Raj Babbar, who was previously married to Nadra in 1975. Later, he fell in love with Smita and tied the knot. A while ago, in an interview, veteran makeup artist Deepak Sawant revealed emotional moments when Smita passed away. “Smita Patel used to say mujhe suhaganbanake leke jana (I should die as a married woman),” he said in an interview with Pooja Samant on Reel Meets Real.

He spoke about the painful moment when he did Smita’s makeup at her funeral. “After she died, her sister was coming from Chicago and took 2-3 days to come. During this time, her body was preserved on ice and was swollen,” he recalls.He further revealed, “Her mother gave me a makeup kit and Amitabh Bachchan and other people were sitting there. She gave me the makeup kit in front of them and told me that it was her wish to become a suhaagan. She started crying and I applied makeup to her while I was crying. I did her final makeup and made her look very beautiful on her last day.”
