Lin-Manuel Miranda has set his next directorial project.

the Hamilton The creator will direct a feature film adaptation of the Dave Malloy musical eight, which premiered Off-Broadway in 2019. The a cappella musical explores the topic of internet addiction as told through an eight-person support group meeting in a church basement.

“I didn’t stop thinking Eight Since I saw the premiere of Annie Tippi in November of 2019. Dave Malloy’s music is versatile, gorgeous, and more relevant with each passing year. “He won’t leave me alone, so here we are,” Miranda said.

This is the second feature film that Miranda will direct, after adapting Jonathan Larson’s musical Tag, tag…boom!, Starring Andrew Garfield in 2021.

Julie Oh, who joins Miranda’s production company, 5000 Broadway Productions, as head of film and television, is producing the film, along with Best Secret Production Company’s John Skidmore and Louis A. Miranda jr. Oh also produced and oversaw the acquisition of Mark, mark…boom! By Netflix.

Malloy, who also wrote the Tony-nominated musical Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812is adapting the film’s musical book and also serves as executive producer. Choose a movie based on Eight Not announced yet.

The film is being financed and executive produced by several Broadway producers and entities including Sander Jacobs, Karen Jacobs, Today Takes Group, Hamilton Producers Jeffrey Seller, Theresa Tsai and John Gore for Broadway.com.
