Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority announced a new agreement to reduce daily transportation costs for specific residents, offering 50 percent discounts on taxi fares along with exemptions from public parking fees. The initiative, which was unveiled in early April 2026, was launched in coordination with social development agencies in Dubai as part of ongoing efforts to enhance mobility and reduce financial pressures on vulnerable groups. Officials said that this step reflects the emirate’s long-term commitment to building a comprehensive and accessible transportation system.
Who gets 50% discount on taxi fare in Dubai?
According to the Roads and Transport Authority, the 50% reduction in taxi prices primarily targets people of determination, an officially recognized category across the UAE for individuals with disabilities.Authorities explained that eligible residents must hold a valid ID such as a Sanad card, which enables them to access a range of government-supported benefits. Discounted rates apply to RTA taxis, including vehicles specially equipped to meet mobility needs such as wheelchair access.Officials noted that the agreement guarantees beneficiaries the ability to travel at a reasonable cost for essential trips, including medical appointments, work commutes, and daily errands.
The authority stressed that improving “first and last mile connectivity” for people of determination remains a priority within the framework of Dubai’s transportation strategy.
Exemptions from parking fees
As part of the same agreement, Dubai has expanded parking fee exemptions to eligible residents via designated paid parking zones.Roads and Transport Authority officials confirmed that the exemptions apply to beneficiaries registered within the approved social welfare categories.
While People of Determination remain the primary focus, some seniors and eligible residents enrolled in social support programs may also benefit, subject to approval and documentation. The authority added that these exemptions aim to alleviate recurring costs for residents who rely on private vehicles, especially in areas where paid parking is widely imposed.
Comprehensive transportation system in the United Arab Emirates
The Roads and Transport Authority said in its statement that the initiative is consistent with Dubai’s broader vision of creating a “barrier-free city” and improving the quality of life through accessible infrastructure and services.Officials stressed that Dubai has continuously expanded benefits in recent years, including discounted public transport fares and customized mobility services. The latest agreement builds on those efforts by combining financial relief with practical accessibility measures. The announcement comes as Dubai continues to strengthen its transportation ecosystem, with authorities emphasizing that comprehensive mobility is not just a service upgrade, but an essential part of the emirate’s urban development goals.
