For Divya Dutta, working with Amitabh Bachchan early in her career turned into a life lesson she has never forgotten.Speaking about her experience on the sets of Baghban, the actress recalled how she struggled to separate her on-screen character from real life.“Mr. Bachchan played a pivotal role early in my career. I didn’t know how to differentiate between a real film and a reality show,” she said during a recent After Hours interaction with All About Eve.“I love him, who doesn’t love him, but in Baghban, I played a very bad woman. I was a child, I was 17-18 years old at that time,” Divya added.

“My good morning has diminished.”

Speaking about how the role affected her behaviour, she said, “Earlier, during the initial days, I would feel energetic and wish him good morning.

Happy to be with Mr Bachchan…it was a dream come true.“But gradually the bad part of the role started to affect me, and my good morning diminished,” she added. It was Amitabh Bachchan who noticed this shift and kindly intervened.

He came to my defense.”“I told him: ‘No, sir, I’m just saying my lines.’” He didn’t say anything, he was calm, but what he wanted to say was: “Exactly, you’re saying your lines, you’re not saying them to me, so don’t feel bad about it.”

She also revealed how the veteran actor eased her discomfort. “Then he spoiled me with food, and I was so normal and happy.”

“I learned to distinguish between the real and the virgin.”

The actor said the moment stayed with her. “So the little girl who is 17 or 18 years old will never forget that. And then I learned how to differentiate between real and fake.”Baghban, which also starred Hema Malini, remains one of the most memorable films of Divya Dutta’s career, and it clearly came with a lasting lesson off-screen.
