Mercedes-Benz GLS 2026 revealed: It gets a cloud suspension system!

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV globally. Mercedes’ largest model has been updated with new styling, improved dynamics, a revamped interior and new technology.

It now gets a flat-plane crankshaft V8, a triple-screen instrument panel, and a cloud-based suspension system. The SUV will go on sale first in the US and European markets, and is expected to be launched in India by the end of this year. The 2026 GLS will continue as Mercedes-Benz’s flagship SUV, positioned at the top of its lineup. It will compete with the Audi Q7, BMW X7, Land Rover Defender and Volvo XC90.

PowertrainGlobally, the new GLS will be offered in two diesel variants – 350d 4MATIC and 450d 4MATIC – and two petrol options, 450 4MATIC and 580 4MATIC.

Both diesels use six-cylinder engines with an electrically heated catalyst to meet upcoming Euro 7 standards. The 450 4MATIC features a six-cylinder petrol engine, which Mercedes claims offers refinement, response and better torque under partial load.

The Indian market is expected to get only 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel engine options.

The 580 4MATIC introduces a flat-plane V8, replacing the previous M177 cross-plane unit. The updated M177 Evo, first seen in the facelifted S 580 4MATIC, has been developed in line with Euro 7 requirements.

The V8 engine produces 530 hp and 750 Nm of torque, and both petrol models are electronically limited to 210 km/h. All engines come mated to an updated ISG 2.0 mild hybrid system. The built-in 48V starter generator supports power boost, power recovery and engine shutdown.

The 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission takes over the gearbox duties. The Indian market is expected to get 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options only. It happens Cloud-based commentary! The GLS now features AIRMATIC air suspension with cloud-based damping control, allowing the system to adjust damping ahead of road conditions. The 580 4MATIC’s optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL can analyze driving conditions up to 1,000 times per second. The updated driver assistance system includes up to five radar sensors, 10 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, supported by a more powerful MB.O control unit.design The updated Mercedes-Benz GLS introduces its main design changes at the front, with a larger, more upright grille featuring a star-shaped design. The grille has become wider and more squared, giving the SUV a stronger appearance. The LED headlights have been revised with new illumination, including updated daytime running light elements and slimmer housings, while maintaining the overall shape.

The front bumper has been redesigned with cleaner surfaces and more defined, vertically oriented air inlets.

In profile, the GLS remains largely unchanged, with its long wheelbase, tall roofline and upright proportions continuing. Updates are limited to new alloy wheel designs and minor trim revisions, while maintaining the shoulder line and large glass area.

Back design

At the rear, the SUV gets updated LED taillights with a new interior style, now connected by a glossy black strip to enhance the visual presentation. The rear bumper has also been revised with changes to the lower section, including updated inserts and exhaust surrounds.

Two new paint options have been introduced – Dark Petrol and MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red Metallic, as well as new 22- and 23-inch alloy wheel designs.

Interior

Interior Moving inside, the dashboard now comes standard with Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Superscreen, which features three 12.3-inch displays housed under a single glass panel. Rear passengers also get two 11.6-inch screens. The system runs updated MBUX software with expanded connectivity and customization functions. The material finishes have been revised, with new trim and upholstery options available under the MANUFAKTUR programme, including updated wood, metal and leather combinations.

The center console and controls have been reworked to have a sharper design with fewer physical buttons. Ambient lighting has also been updated to extend across the cabin with additional themes.
