Donald Trump’s niece says her grandfather (Donald Trump’s father) was an “anchor child.”
Mary Trump, President Donald Trump’s niece and also a vocal critic of the president, said her grandfather was a baby and that the best case against birthright citizenship is the president himself.
Mary pointed to Donald Trump’s father, Frederick Crist Trump, who was born in New York City to German immigrants.
The post came as the Supreme Court on Wednesday heard arguments regarding birthright citizenship and President Trump was there. This was the first order of the president in his second term declaring that children born to parents who are in the United States illegally or temporarily are not American citizens. As the hearing continued, Stephen Miller, the architect of Trump’s anti-immigrant decisions, made a quick social media post. “Birthright citizenship means the children of illegal aliens can vote to tax your children and seize their inheritance,” he wrote.
Who is the anchor child? ?
A child born to non-citizen parents is called an “anchor child” in political discourse. Vivek Ramaswamy is often called the “anchor child” but this term has no official status and is used only politically.
Donald Trump’s grandparents were German immigrants. His grandfather, Friedrich Trump, immigrated to the United States in 1885 when he was 16 years old and became a US citizen in 1882, long before Donald Trump’s father was born in 1905.President Trump’s grandparents were married in Germany in 1902, but were barred from residing there in part because of earlier evading mandatory German military service, according to records. They returned to New York in 1905, and Trump’s father was born three months later in the United States.
