It looks like Broadway is ready to get… Happy feet A musical based on George Miller’s Oscar-winning animated film about the singing and dancing of emperor penguins.
Tony Award-winning Michael Arden is on board to direct a live stage version being developed by Tony Award-winning producer Dorie Bernstein (Legally blonde, prom). This transferred-to-Broadway musical, based on Miller and Warner Bros.’s 2006 CGI-animated musical, also features the creative team of book writer Douglas Lyons and a choreography team that includes tap dancer Ayodele Cassel, Lauren Yalanjo Grant, and Christopher “Cree” Grant (The Lost Boys, Parade).
The Broadway musical now in development will feature songs from the original film and a dance-based soundtrack, the project’s producers said. The original film and its sequel have grossed over $847 million worldwide.
Design team for Happy feet The musical also includes a host of other Tony Award winners, including set designer Dane Lavery, costume designer Susan Hilferty, and lighting designer Natasha Katz, along with puppet designer Basil Twist, co-orchestrator/orchestrator Kenny Seymour, and music supervisor/co-orchestrator Jackson Tilley.
The musical is produced in association with Warner Bros. Theater Ventures, whose upcoming projects include adaptations of the Theater Ventures play Crazy Rich Asians, Practical Magic and current Broadway productions of Lost Boys andAfternoon dog day.
Mark Kaufman, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Theater Ventures will serve as a creative advisor, while Miller will serve as a consulting producer. General Administration ofHappy feet The musical is produced by Wagner Johnson Productions.
Happy feet It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2007. The film featured a star-studded voice cast, including Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman, and others. Its sequel,Happy feet twofirst appeared in 2011.
