International Baccalaureate (IB) students across the UAE will not sit their final exams in 2026, following the ongoing regional conflict and strife between the US, Israel and Iran.
Parents at IB schools were informed of the huge shift in the current exam cycle through emails sent on Monday evening. This also represents a change in the assessment process for students. According to a circular sent by an IB school, students will be given results using the Non-Exam Emergency Measure (NECM). Under this process, students will be awarded final grades based on a combination of internal assessments, coursework and other academic evidence. The system is designed to maintain academic standards while reducing stress and uncertainty among students during an already difficult period The International Baccalaureate Organization said it will reach out directly to universities around the world to ensure clarity on NECM’s approach in the Middle East. The decision was made to prioritize student safety and ensure continuity of courses amid ongoing regional tensions. On the other hand, the country’s Ministry of Education announced the continuation of distance learning in all public and private schools until Friday, April 17. This applies to all students, teachers, and administrative staff in educational institutions, such as nurseries, kindergartens, and others throughout the country.
Previously, CBSE had canceled the Class 12th final exams in order to provide relief to anxious students and parents who are facing difficulties and chaos due to the current atmosphere in the country. The council announced that students will be analyzed on the basis of a mixed evaluation system. This would combine the marks for completed papers with the averages calculated for papers not completed. The authorities in the United Arab Emirates, from border guards to education, have taken all necessary steps to ensure smooth functioning and normal life in the country while ensuring the safety of citizens and working on their development and growth.
