The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior official, deputy commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), in connection with an alleged incident. $4,000 bribery cases related to licensing management.

The agency identified the officer as Lt. Col. Abhishek Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Shahdara North, MCD. According to officials, the central agency made the arrest after receiving information about Mishra’s demand for bribe.

A senior CBI officer said that a case was registered following a complaint received by the agency that accounts officer Divyanshu Gautam had demanded bribe of Rs. $4 lakh from the licensing inspector.

Based on the complaint, the CBI team laid a trap and caught both the officials red-handed, the agency said, adding that preliminary investigations indicate that more aspects of corruption may have emerged.

The Central Bank of Iraq said it would release details of the case later on Tuesday.

A special CBI court in Thane, Maharashtra has sentenced a former income tax officer to six months’ rigorous imprisonment in a 19-year-old case of taking bribe. $20,000 from a person to finalize the tax security assessment.

Special Judge (CBI) DS Deshmukh also imposed a fine of Rs $4,000 on the accused, Dinanath Krishna Puthran (77), in the order issued on March 27, after a trial lasting over 18 years.

A chartered accountant and a tax assistant accused in the case were acquitted due to lack of direct evidence.

The case dates back to 2007, when Putran worked as an income tax officer at Vashi in Navi Mumbai. Samraj Naikkar, managing director of M/s Shree Laxmi Electricals and Consultants Pvt Ltd, filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the CBI, alleging that Putran was harassing and demanding $40,000 to finish auditing his company’s tax files and those of his wife.

On January 3, 2007, a CBI team arrested Butran after he accepted a negotiated sum of Rs. $20,000. The investigating agency also accused CA Jayant Dattatray Adhyapak of the alleged abetment, and then tax assistant Prakash Gunaji Nevrekar of accepting additional reward. $1000.
