US President Donald Trump early Tuesday escalated his rhetoric and messaging around the US military campaign against Iran, highlighting the scale of strikes carried out as part of Operation Epic Fury, allegedly with B2 bunker busters.
He shared a post on social media showing the Iranian site of Isfahan engulfed in flames.Earlier, Trump warned that Iran’s energy infrastructure could be “destroyed” if an agreement is not reached soon. The post, which was shared on Truth Social without comment, showed massive explosions lighting up the night sky over Isfahan, a city of about 2.3 million people and home to Badr Military Air Base.
According to a US official cited by the Wall Street Journal, US forces struck a large ammunition depot in Isfahan using 2,000-pound bunker-buster bombs.
A large number of penetrating munitions were reportedly used in the operation.Isfahan is also known to contain enriched uranium linked to Iran’s nuclear program. The city was previously targeted during a US raid last year in the summer as part of Operation Midnight Hammer, which focused on its nuclear facilities.
What are B2 bombers?
B-2 bombers are capable of carrying the GBU-57 bunker buster bomb, a weapon designed to penetrate deep into the ground before exploding.
It was developed specifically to destroy hardened nuclear facilities and deeply buried command centers. The B-2 is among the most advanced aircraft ever built. Its flying wing design and specialized materials significantly reduce its radar signature, allowing it to avoid detection and operate in highly protected airspace. This makes it particularly suitable for hitting targets fortified underground. Notably, it remains the only aircraft capable of deploying the GBU-57 bomb.

During Operation Midnight Hammer last June, seven B-2 bombers reportedly dropped fourteen of these bombs on Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. This operation marked the first known combat use of this weapon, demonstrating the United States’ ability to target and destroy buried and reinforced infrastructure.
