The two seats will be Perambur and Trichy East. Vijay will face DMK sitting MLA RD Shekar, who will contest from Perambur. He is also facing MLA and DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj in Trichy East.

“It will be C Joseph Vijay,” he said at a party rally in the state capital Chennai while announcing his candidacy.

Vijay also named TVK candidates for other seats, with all members of his core team finding a place in the list. Elections to 234 assembly segments in the state are scheduled to be held on April 23. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4, while the current council term ends on May 10.

Senior party leaders and members of Vijay’s internal team – N Anand, Adhav Arjuna, R Arunraaj, CTR Nirmal Kumar and KA Sengkottaiyan – have been named by the party president as TVK’s candidates for seats including T Nagar, Villivakkam, Gobichettipalayam and Thirupparankundram.

He reiterated that the electoral battle was between his “people’s TVK alliance and Stalin’s alliance”, and criticized the DMK-led ruling bloc as mere “tinkering”.

“I have chosen as candidates those who will stand with the people,” he said.

Vijay announced a series of key election promises, stressing his vision of a drug-free and self-reliant Tamil Nadu. He also confirmed that all government tests will be conducted on time without delay. To highlight the welfare of the youth, Vijay announced a monthly assistance of Rs $4000 for graduates and $2000 for diploma holders.

The TVK president stressed that his party’s candidates are different from those of other parties. According to him, they understand the struggle of the common man, the voice of the people, and the protectors of the association.

“Today is an important day, the day when we introduce the true protectors of the people (candidates). Our candidates come from ordinary backgrounds. They are not people with great wealth or power. They are people who understand the struggles of the common man. They are not like other corrupt MLAs. An MLA should not rely on experience alone. What matters is integrity, responsibility and commitment to the people. An MLA is not just a representative, they are the protectors of the assembly and the voice of the people. I have personally selected each candidate after studying the matter,” he said. “Careful.”

In a veiled attack on Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, he said: “The alliance we (DMK) are talking about is not a strong or normal alliance. Such alliances may not last, especially when the outcome is already known.”
