“This week, xAI will open source Grok,” Musk said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In simpler terms, open source software, such as a chatbot, means that the software projects are redistributable as everyone has access to all the source code. One advantage of having open source software is that it provides flexibility to an organization to have multiple ways to fix a problem rather than waiting for an internal team to provide the solution.

Meanwhile, one user suggested that OpenAI should do the same.
“OpenAI should do the same if it were open,” the user said. “OpenAI is a lie,” Musk replied.
Musk wants AI technology to be open source
Musk presented the idea of open source artificial intelligence during a podcast in November last year. In a podcast with Lex Friedman, Musk noted that he likes the idea of open source AI. “I’m generally in favor of open source, like a bias toward open source,” he said.
