Ravi Gopal’s mortal remains were brought to his native village in Baghin in Sitapur from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday with the help of the Ministry of External Affairs and District Administration. His last rites were held later in the evening.

Villagers gathered in large numbers to bid a final farewell to Gopal, who had been working as a driver in a plastics factory in the Saudi capital since last year. Gopal’s last rites were performed by his elder brother Manmohan Dayal in the presence of family members and local officials.

He is survived by his wife, parents and four-year-old son. Family members said that his wife, Ritu, is still in a state of grief after the accident. The family is in dire need of financial assistance and has sought a government job for Gopal’s wife to support their livelihood, Dayal told news agency PTI.

He said local BJP MLA Asha Maurya assured them of taking quick steps to meet their demands.

The family has asked for compensation and a job, Mehmoodabad Sub-District Magistrate PK Singh told reporters on Thursday.

“We are investigating the matter. The district administration is helping the family with legal procedures while they wait for a response to their request for financial assistance and government assistance,” Singh said.

Officials said that the administration is in contact with the bereaved family and is providing all possible support.
