Veteran actor-director EA Rajendran passed away at the age of 71 in Kollam after a long battle with age-related ailments. A graduate of the National School of Drama, Rajendran has starred in more than sixty films with his presence in villainous and personal roles, along with his notable television career.
Veteran actor and director E A Rajendran has passed away at the age of 71. He reportedly breathed his last at his residence in Pathathanam.As reported by Manorama Online, EA Rajendran has been undergoing treatment for a long time due to age-related ailments.
A native of Thrithallur in Thrissur district, Rajendran is survived by his wife Sandhya Rajendran.
A journey from theater to cinema
Rajendran began his artistic journey at an early age. During his school days in Thrissur UP, he actively participated in drama shows.After completing his college education, he joined the National School of Drama in Delhi. He graduated with first class in acting and then pursued a television course at the Film Institute in Pune.
Notable film career
E. A. Rajendran appeared in around sixty films during his career. He has played both villain and character roles in many great films. Apart from films, he has also been active in popular TV serials.He made an early appearance in VR Gopinath’s film ‘Greeshmam’. However, he faced a period without opportunities in the film industry. After a long break, he returned with the classic film ‘Kalyattam’, directed by Jayaraj.
Rajendran has worked in several films including ‘Pranayavarnamgal’, ‘Daya’ and Jayaram’s ‘Pattabhishekam’.
Beyond acting and personal life
Rajendran has also made his mark as a director in theater and also in other creative fields. He also served as Chairman of the State Horticulture Corporation. Rajendran was also the brother-in-law of actor Mukesh.Earlier in 2025, Rajendran addressed concerns about his health in an interview with YouTube channel Mainstream One.
He explained that his weight loss was intentional.“I have reduced my weight on doctor’s advice to control my sugar levels. Age is also catching up, and I have to be careful. My son is acting now, and we also run a production company. I am one of the leading producers of serials in South India,” he said.His mortal remains will be kept for public veneration in Kollam. They will later be taken to his hometown in Thrissur. The funeral service will be held the next day at his residence in Thrithalur, Thrissur.
