TikTok will return to sponsoring the Juno Awards this weekend after reaching a settlement with the Canadian government that allows the video social media platform to continue operating locally.

“The joy of discovering music has always been at the heart of TikTok, and we look forward to celebrating the artistry of Canadian musicians at the 2026 Juno Awards,” the video social media platform said in a statement ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Music Awards.

Justin Bieber and Tate McRae lead the nominations for the Canadian version of the Grammy Awards, which will be held in Hamilton, Ontario. Along with its financial support as a returning sponsor, TikTok aims to allow local creators to share content created at Junos with its global audiences.

The Canadian government’s settlement with TikTok Canada follows an investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and its provincial counterparts into TikTok Technology Canada Inc. For reasons related to national security.

With its return to Junos, TikTok will allow select Canadian digital creators to stream behind-the-scenes footage of Junos, including collection reveals, backstage tours, artist rehearsals and red carpet coverage. The partnership with the Canadian Academy of Recording Artists, which regulates the Junos, comes after Ottawa allowed TikTok Canada to maintain its local operations following a 2024 order to close its offices in Toronto.

TikTok Canada’s sponsorship of major Canadian cultural events like the Junos and the Toronto Film Festival has been suspended following a security-related order for 2024 as the federal government targeted TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, with the investigation now concluded with a formal settlement. Even with TikTok Canada withdrawing sponsorship, Canadians were still able to access the social media giant via the TikTok app.

TikTok’s new Canadian deal comes on the heels of the US sale of the social video platform to a consortium of US investors, resulting in the emergence of a new US joint venture owner, TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC. Management investors include Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX (the Abu Dhabi government investment company).

Junos 2026 will be broadcast live on CBC and hosted by May Martin.
