History of concretethe first special show from the creator behind the hit HBO series How with John Wilsonpremiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. The film follows Wilson, after his TV show has ended and looking for a new creative outlet, as he attempts to make the ultimate documentary about concrete and tell that story through the structure of a Hallmark movie.
Dan Feinberg, in his book Hollywood Reporter A review from Sundance wrote, “John Wilson is the worldly Werner Herzog, New York City’s award-winning lo-fi poet. He’s half hustler, half earnest documentarian, and all curious rambling. Once you tap into his atmosphere, carefully written and edited to sound like a stream of consciousness, the viewing experience resembles the most concise rollercoaster imaginable.”
Wilson produced the doc with Clark Filiu, Cheryl Cusack, and Allie Vitti. Executive producers are Josh Safdie, Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein, Connor Hannon, and Richie Doyle, with Francis Carr Jr.
“John Wilson’s inimitable intelligence and wisdom make us want to get out and walk every building in every borough of New York, even though we’ve lived here for decades,” said Eamonn Bowles and Dorie Begley, co-CEOs of Magnolia Pictures. “The film is a very funny epic that will literally change the way you see things.”
“Magnolia has always championed artistic and unconventional filmmaking, so it is a true honor to receive it History of concrete “Join this legacy,” Wilson said. “This is a film that was always meant to be experienced collectively, and I can’t wait for audiences to discover it in a real cinema. Despite what the title might suggest, it’s also a wonderful historical film!”
The deal was negotiated by UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.
