Police said that the charred body of a former son of the Moroccan Liberation Army was found inside a car in a densely forested area in this region on Tuesday.

They said that the deceased was identified as Raju Pollashetti (53), a resident of Udakiri village in Belhungal taluk of Belagavi district.

Sources said he was the son of former MLA Baburao Bolashetty.

According to police, the man’s charred body was found inside his parked car in a deserted area near the railway line in Ramapur village in Dharwad taluk. The body was found completely burned, raising strong suspicions.

Citing a preliminary investigation, a senior police officer said the attackers were suspected of killing Raju and then setting the car on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence before fleeing the scene.

After receiving the information, Dharwad Rural Police visited the scene and conducted a search.

The body was transferred for autopsy, and a report was prepared on the incident.

Officials said that the police formed teams and opened an investigation to ascertain the exact cause and identify those involved in this act.

They added that the forensic team and the police dog squad examined the crime scene and collected evidence for further investigations.
