South Korea is set to debut The Koreas, a reimagined version of The Americans, featuring Squid Game stars Lee Byung-hun and Han Ji-min as secret North Korean spies in the 1990s. The series explores their double lives, caught between loyalty to the country and family ties, when a counterintelligence agent approaches.
The reimagined Korean version of “The Americans”, starring popular “Squid Game” star Lee Byung-hun and Han Ji-min, has officially begun. The actors in “The Koreans” are set to play North Korean spies living undercover in South Korea. The narrative follows a seemingly ordinary middle-class family hiding a dangerous secret, against the backdrop of South Korea’s democratic transition and rapid cultural transformation in the early 1990s.

Ahn Gilho, whose credits include “The Glory,” is directing the series. The script was adapted by Park Eunkyu, known for “Made in Korea” and “Mother,” from the original series created by Joe Weisberg and directed by Weisberg and Joel Fields, which starred Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.This announcement positions the series as the latest addition to the expanding roster of Korean content.
