England Test captain Ben Stokes admitted the last three months have been the most challenging period of his captaincy, following England’s disappointing 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia.Despite the setback, Stokes reiterated his commitment to taking the team forward alongside coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Rob Key, all of whom have retained the support of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Emotionally Instagram Next, Stokes described the mental and emotional impact of captaining England during a difficult Ashes campaign.He added: “Being captain of England is the greatest honor that can be given to a player and I never take that for granted. It has its highs and its lows, it makes you want to smile and it makes you want to cry. It completely and completely consumes you and feels like the only thing in your life sometimes.”
“The last three months have undoubtedly been the toughest period of my journey as a captain, it has tested me in many different ways and I’m sure every other captain has gone through this too,” Stokes said.Stokes stressed that the leadership group remains united and determined to improve, “Baz, Rob and I have the passion and desire to move this team forward, we will give you everything we have, we know we have made mistakes along the way and we have learned from those mistakes, you learn more from failure than success.

Why did England struggle in the Ashes series?
England’s defeat in the Ashes was more than just a loss, it was a systemic failure. Poor preparation, including a lack of meaningful warm-up matches, left the team unprepared for Australian conditions.
