In radio silence Ready or Not 2: Here I comeUrsula Danforth, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, painfully realizes that her twin brother, Titus (Sean Hatosy), is even more of a raging lunatic than she previously thought. His moral alignment matters when control of the world hinges on the outcome of the latest deadly game of hide and seek. The sprawling Danforths estate that includes a casino and golf course is hosting a last-minute event in response to Grace MacCaullay’s (Samara Weaving) removal of the “High Council” family in the 2019 original film that Silence Radio’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette co-directed. Ursula ultimately decides that she cannot allow Titus to win the most prominent seat in their satanic sect, a seat that their ailing father (David Cronenberg’s Chester Danforth) sacrificed so that his heir and heiress could give their family the best chance at maintaining world power for many more years.
And so, with Gellar being one of the most iconic scream queens ever to grace the big and small screen, the expectation begins that her character will sacrifice herself for two of the most iconic scream queens of the past decade, Weaving and Katherine Newton, and their sister characters Grace and Faith. Late in the film, Grace exploits a loophole and agrees to marry Titus in order to protect herself and her sister from further bloodshed, and reward Titus with the “high seat” at the same time. Before their wedding, Grace is cleaned by the Danforth family’s in-house magic squad, when Ursula approaches her to reconsider her plan to marry her psychotic brother. However, he crashes the negotiations and brutally cuts Ursula’s neck in front of Grace, undermining the idea of generational support between scream queens.
“We really needed to up the ante of doom and the feeling of fucking despair when you get into the third act,” says Gillett. Hollywood Reporter. “Casting Sarah Michelle in this part adds to all of that,” Bettinelli-Olpin adds. “She’s a legend and an icon who didn’t expect that ending in any way.”
Shortly after becoming husband and wife, Grace exploits another loophole in the hide-and-seek rulebook and kills Titus, thus sending the rest of the High Council to be slaughtered by their demonic master, Le Bell. Grace, Faith, and the preserved goat proceed to walk until sunrise, marking a new beginning for the previously estranged siblings. This conclusion raises the question of where the fledgling franchise can go now that Grace no longer has a target on her back thanks to the Supreme Council turning splatter.
Co-screenwriters Jay Busiek and R. Christopher Murphy have a pitch for a third ready or not A film they did not share in detail with Radio Silence. But Gillett points out that the crazy game of hide-and-seek Le Bail is playing is bigger than just the last two outings with Grace.
“Le Bail is still there. The lawyer.” [Elijah Wood] It still exists. “The joy of the first movie and the ultimate conclusion of the second movie is that the mythology is still there,” says Gillette. “Le Bail is not a character who wins or loses. It’s just about chaos. “This seed will allow us to grow any number of stories from mythology.”
The film also ends with a dangling thread featuring Martina Ragan (Masha Lezdic). Her cowardly husband, Madhu (Varun Saranga), nominates her to play hide-and-seek in his place, so she chooses to get out of Dodge before all the families involved meet their end at Grace and Titus’ wedding. However, because she agreed to play by signing on the dotted line, Mr. Le Bell took her life off the screen as well. Radio Silence almost included a mid-credits scene to explicitly confirm her ill fate.
“We talked about shooting an end tag where Grace and Faith are still walking down this long road outside the resort. Then they’ll walk past Martina’s smashed car on the side of the road, and it’ll be full of stains and blood,” Gillette shares. “Of course, at the end of the game, her name is on the contract in that book, so it explodes, too.”
Below, through the spoiler portion of THRIn a recent wide-ranging conversation with Radio Silence, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett also discussed Gellar’s reaction to her character’s death, as well as Capper’s potential triple status.

[[Spoiler warning.]The death of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character was very shocking. When Ursula (Gellar) begins to see her brother Titus (Sean Hatosy) for who he really is, I keep thinking she’ll sacrifice herself as part of helping generations from scream queen to scream queen (Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton). But it came out with greater brutality, so what is the story behind this step?
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin It’s Guy Busiek’s fault.
It always is.
Radio silence (He laughs.)
Tyler Gillette It was actually one of our ideas that was put forward. When it became a sister story, we also learned that the group had another very important brother pair in Titus and Ursula. We loved that these two relationships served as foils and mirrors to each other. When grace and faith come together, Titus and Ursula move in opposite directions, and we really liked the reverse symmetry of that. It was really interesting to play with, and in many ways, that structure helped us design the evolution or regression of these characters. During preparation, we were still rewriting and preparing to shoot, and we felt like we were missing another step. That sisterly relationship, once we started to really calibrate it as a foil to Grace and Faith, we needed some form of conclusion with the two that we felt would rush us to the end of the movie. We really needed to up the ante and feel the damned despair as you enter the third act. And what better way than for this character who had been under his father’s control – and then strangely under his sister’s control – to finally free himself from it all in an even worse, more terrifying way. Titus explains to Grace, “No, this is what you’re going to marry. You thought you were going to live, but I basically took your soul with this proposal.”
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin completely. And choosing Sarah Michelle in this part increases all of that. It’s such a legend and such an icon that you don’t expect that ending in any way.
Tyler Gillette She was very interested.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin Yes, she was into it.
Tyler Gillette Sarah has clearly done her fair share of stunts, so she’s fully committed to the semi-romantic tragedy of the moment. The last thing Ursula said to her brother was “I love you” before he broke her neck. It’s so absurd and Shakespearean and heartbreaking. So it was very cool for Sarah to go into that dark place.

Grace needed Titus to believe she was going to have the wedding, so she wondered if she had intentionally put Ursula in this scene. This way, Titus will be less wary when she eventually turns on him during the wedding.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin This is interesting. We really liked the idea that at that moment in the movie — and for about the next five to 10 minutes — Grace didn’t have a plan. There is no outside. She is truly hopeless throughout that moment and the next scene.
You’ve said you want to keep making ready or not movies, but now that the Supreme Council has been blown to smithereens, where can you really go with grace and faith?
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin A cute little rom-com on the beach somewhere.
Tyler Gillette – Yes, they go on their honeymoon.
Is there a low council?
Radio silence (He laughs.)
Tyler Gillette Le Pyle is still there. Lawyer [Elijah Wood] It still exists. The joy of the first film and the crucial ending of the second is that the mythology is still there. For us, Le Bail is not a character who wins or loses. It’s just about chaos. This seed will allow us to grow any number of stories from mythology.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin We didn’t think there was a story for a sequel, so we were pleasantly surprised when the guys showed us this bigger world. We were like, “Yes, this is fun. There’s a way to do this.”
Did you communicate anything concrete with Jay and screenwriter L Participant R. Christopher Murphy?
Tyler Gillette Not directly.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin We’re told they have an opening scene.
Tyler Gillette Yes, they told us they had an offer. They have a look at what the third movie could be, but we haven’t discussed it. We haven’t been allowed into this conversation yet.

It would be cruel if one of them died after they finally made up, but grace and faith were always safe, right?
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin Yes, we approached this film in many ways as a love story between two sisters. We wanted to give them a happy ending, but we also wanted to make them go through hell to get there.
Maddou’s wife, Martina (Masha Lesdek), leaves Le Bail’d from the estate before the third act. Did it explode wherever it ended up?
Tyler Gillette I survived until dawn and then baf.[[Author’s Note: “Paffing” is the term ready or not The team is used when characters explode.]We liked the idea that you don’t have to hunt. You can choose not to fish, but what you sacrifice is the ability to win the seat. We talked for a minute about filming the end sign as Grace and Faith are still walking that long path outside the resort. They then walk past Martina’s smashed car on the side of the road, which was full of stains and blood. Of course, at the end of the game, her name is on the contract in that book, so she explodes, too.
