An adoption-focused drama starring Jake Lacy and Nazanin Boniadi is making its way to theaters.
Persimmon has acquired North American distribution rights to the indie film from writer-director Nicola Renciari Mosquito in the ear, Hollywood Reporter I learned exclusively. Ruhi Bal is assembling the cast for the film, which will hit select theaters this spring after premiering last month at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it won the Panavision Spirit Award for Independent Cinema.
Mosquito in the ear The film revolves around Andrew (Lacey) and Daniella (Buniyadi), who venture to India to bring home their 4-year-old daughter, Sarvari (Pal). Tensions arise when the girl refuses to join them on their return trip.
Renciari directed the film from his own script adapting Andrea Ferraris’s fact-based graphic novel of the same name. Emily Dillard, Darren Dean, Ali K. Rizvi, Frank Hall Green, Stephen Stanley and Jomon Thomas serve as producers. Lorenz Postma and Sunitha Ram of Lasutra Pictures supervised the production in India.

UTA Independent Film Group negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers, while Maguire represented Persimmon. Fandango’s Raffaella Di Giulio is leading international sales, which launched at this year’s EFM.
