On Sunday, young people in the Shiite-dominated areas of the valley went from house to house to collect donations for those affected by the West Asian war in Iran, Press Ti reported. Follow updates on the conflict in the Middle East

“There is massive destruction caused by this illegal war imposed on Iran by the Zionist-Israeli regime and its supporters. The least the civilized world can do is send aid to the suffering Iranian people,” Aijaz Ahmed, a resident of Raynawari, was quoted as saying.

Officials said people from all walks of life, including men, women and children, participated in the donation drive.

Women, in particular, came forward and contributed generously by donating gold jewellery, copper utensils and other valuable household items, they said. Some families even offered livestock.

The Iranian embassy published a video clip of a woman donating gold given to her by her husband, who died 28 years ago. “A respected sister from Kashmir donated the gold she kept as a memento of her husband who died 28 years ago with a heart full of love and solidarity with the people of #Iran (sic),” the embassy posted on the X website.

Another video clip showed a little girl donating her piggy bank, saying that she has been collecting money for three years.

The donations were mostly collected from Budgam and Baramulla districts of Kashmir where there is a large Shia population.

“With hearts full of gratitude, we sincerely thank the good people of Kashmir for standing with the people of Iran through their humanitarian support and sincere solidarity; this kindness will never be forgotten,” the embassy said in another post on the X website.

According to officials, donations will be directed through official relief organizations, including the Iranian embassy, ​​to ensure they reach those in need.
