“Illegal and inhumane”: Iran sticks to Spanish Prime Minister’s “no to war” message on missiles targeting Israel

Local media reported that the agitated center of power in Tehran used Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s anti-war statements by linking his words written in English and Persian to a missile directed at Israel, as Iran continues its violent conflict with Israeli-American forces.Images circulating in Iranian media show this stunning wartime message, and highlight how Madrid’s outspoken opposition to the conflict resonates beyond Europe. The posters, written in English and Persian, bear a quote attributed to Sanchez: “Of course, this war is not only illegal, but also inhumane. Thank you, Prime Minister.”According to the semi-official Iranian Mehr News Agency, the stickers were placed directly on the missiles that were launched from Iranian territory towards Israel.

Writing messages on relics is nothing new in this conflict. Earlier this month, Iranian state television broadcast images of soldiers writing messages on missiles, declaring that they would continue strikes “until the last American soldier leaves the Middle East,” Turkey Today reported. The use of Sanchez’s words regarding Iranian weapons highlights the unusual position taken by the Spanish Prime Minister since the start of the US-Israeli military operation against Iran on February 28. Sanchez, one of the few left-wing European leaders to condemn the strikes as “unjustified” and “dangerous,” declared in a nationally televised speech that Spain’s position was “no to war.”
