New Delhi: The Center proposed a working weekend for parliamentarians to make up for the days lost due to holidays that fall this month during the budget session.

According to people familiar with the details, the government has clarified that the ongoing Budget session includes holidays for festivals like Gudi Padwa/Ugadi, Eid-ul-Fitr and Ram Navami.
“It was therefore proposed that March 28 and 29 be working days to compensate for the loss of time and make the most of the budget session,” said one of the people familiar with the details. The budget session that began on March 9 is scheduled to end on April 2.

Typically, homes operate from Monday to Friday.
“In the Lok Sabha, several hours were wasted due to repeated disturbances and protests…Then a no-confidence motion against the Speaker was accepted…All this took up the allotted time to work,” this person said.
