Ryan Gosling’s star power helps return the 2021 novel to the top of the bestseller list.

Hail Mary project It has returned to No. 1 on Amazon’s book charts, following Gosling’s film adaptation hitting theaters on March 20. Written by Andy Weir, whose novel was published in 2011. MartianIt was also made into a movie starring Matt Damon. Hail Mary project It follows the sole survivor of a suicide space mission, who must find a way to save Earth from a mysterious threat.

The book was an instant hit with readers and critics alike when it was first released, and was even given the nickname “The Book”. New York Times Readers choose from its list of “100 Best Books of the 21st Century.” Now, new fans are discovering the sci-fi novel as Gosling’s press tour to promote his new film continues.

Amazon has both hardcover and paperback versions of the book on sale right now, ahead of the film’s premiere.

From the publisher Ballantine Books, Hail Mary project Hours in 496 pages. According to the book’s description, the story follows Ryland Grace, the sole survivor on a “desperate last-chance mission – if he fails, humanity and Earth itself will be doomed.”

The synopsis continues: “His crewmates have died, his memories have mysteriously returned, and Ryland realizes that he now faces an impossible mission.” Hurling through space aboard this tiny ship, it’s up to him to solve an impossible scientific mystery—and overcome an extinction-level threat to our species. As time passes and the nearest human is light years away, he has to do it all alone.

Gosling signed on to write the film in 2020, and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were set to write the script. The film also stars Oscar-nominated actress Sandra Holler. THR David Rooney praised the film in his review, saying it was full of “infectious joy and wonder” and quipping that “the ending tugs at the heartstrings in deeply satisfying ways.”

He also praised Gosling’s performance, saying that the actor’s “quiet charm makes him the perfect actor to mask angst and sadness with quick humor, and serves as a conduit for the story’s poignant meditation on selflessness and sacrifice.”
