HarborView has acquired “select music and non-music assets” from the estate of legendary producer Quincy Jones, the company announced Thursday.
HarborView said Thursday that the deal includes Jones’ recording and publishing assets, as well as his involvement in… fresh prince of bel air, Where he was executive producer. The deal also includes a partnership regarding the rights to Jones’ name, image and likeness.
Jones, who died in 2024, is considered one of the most influential figures in the history of the music industry. Among his production recordings are recordings by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and Michael Jackson, producing some of the latter’s most popular works including Off the wall, exciting story and bad.
“Our father was endlessly curious and always ahead of his time,” Jones’ daughter, actress Rashida Jones, said in a statement. “Long before anyone was talking about ‘multi-platform’, he was already building bridges and connecting the dots across music, film, television, publishing, technology and culture, creating creative giants like stir, violet, fresh prince of bel air, and Vibration“.
Rashida Jones continued: “What made him exceptional was his ability to see around him and bring the right people, ideas and voices together to create timeless work time and time again. As his children, it is our responsibility to protect not only the catalog, but also the spirit and love behind it. HarborView understands this legacy and has the vision and experience to help ensure that future generations feel the full scope of its lasting influence.”
Jones’ son, Quincy Jones III, said HarborView “was the obvious partner for our family.”
“Our father not only created hit songs, he built platforms that shaped culture through music, film, media and technology,” Jones III said. “He believed innovation was a creative tool and embraced it early, from serving on the MIT Board of Directors to pushing the boundaries of what storytelling could be. He had a deep passion for empowering future generations of creators, and saw technology/innovation as a conduit if used ethically.”
The Jones acquisition is just one of many notable deals HarborView has closed since its inception in 2021. Other major deals have included catalogs from SlipKnot, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins and Kelly Clarkson, among many others.
