He added that it was the close protection team that responded to the shot and ensured that the assassination attempt failed.

Farouk Abdullah survived an assassination attempt

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surender Chaudhary escaped unhurt after an assassination attempt on Wednesday night.

According to officials, the attack took place when Abdullah and the Deputy Chief Minister were leaving a wedding and came to receive party leader BS Chouhan on the occasion of his son’s marriage.

The accused, Kamal Singh Jammwal, was arrested at the spot after two police personnel – an inspector and a sub-inspector – overpowered him. Despite this, the man managed to fire one shot before he was disarmed and detained.

According to Tanveer Sadiq, National Conference spokesperson, both Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Prime Minister Surinder Chaudhry are “safe and well.”
