The Banff World Media Festival has selected Spain as the official country of honor for the 2026 festival.
Spanish producers and other industry executives will be spotlighted on the ground in the Canadian Rockies as they look to take on more international co-productions as their country expands as a production hub for global studios and streaming.
“The rise of Spain has been one of the most significant shifts in the global content landscape,” Banff CEO Jane Kuzmic said of its Country of Honor 2026 event, for which it sent a delegation to the June 14-17 event. “From premium franchises to award-winning prestige dramas, Spanish producers are setting the pace for international co-productions and outstanding storytelling.”

“This recognition highlights the strength and ambition of our audiovisual industry, and we look forward to deepening and expanding cooperation between Spain and Canada in the coming years,” Luis Mayoral, director of creative industries at ICEX, which promotes foreign investment in Spain for the federal government, said in a statement.
Spanish TV series are likely to compete this year for the upcoming Rocky Awards, which will be handed out on June 16, 2026 in Banff.
