Veteran Tamil director Thakali Srinivasan passed away in Bengaluru at the age of 72 after a long illness. Known for his work as a producer, director, composer and actor, Srinivasan has credited prominent films like ‘Ivargal Varungala Thoongal’ and ‘Jenma Natchathiram’. In his final years, he devoted himself to charitable work, running the ashram and living with his adopted children.
Veteran Tamil director and composer Thakali Srinivasan passed away in Bengaluru after a long illness. The respected Kollywood personality breathed his last on Tuesday, March 10.Over the years, Srinivasan has gained recognition for his work as a producer, director, composer and actor. Reports indicate that the director has been facing health complications for some time.
PRO Nikil Murukan confirms the news
Industry publicist Nikhil Murukan shared the news of Thakali Srinivasan’s death. His note read: “We deeply regret to inform that producer/director/composer Thakali Srinivasan has passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru.
His last rites will be performed in Bengaluru tomorrow.”
“A successful producer who has produced some notable films like Ivargal Varungala Thoongal Manasukul Mathappu Nalaya Manithan Jenma Natchathiram Athisiya Manithan, Witness, and many others. He also played the antagonist in the Kamal Haasan starrer Soora Samharam. He was a philanthropist and ran a monastery in the last years of his life and lived with his adopted children,” his note said.
A career spanning multiple roles in cinema
Thakali Srinivasan has built a diverse career that extends far beyond a single role in filmmaking. He started his journey in cinema as a producer with the movie Ivargal Varungala Thongal. Over time, he went on to produce many popular films in Tamil cinema like ‘Manasukul Mathappu’, ‘Nalaya Manithan’ and more.Apart from film production, he also ventured into acting where he played the antagonist in Kamal Haasan starrer Soora Samharam.
Notable directing projects
As a director, Thakali Srinivasan has worked on many interesting projects that explored themes of thrillers and horror, one of his famous films being ‘Jenma Natchathiram’, for which he also composed music. The film was a remake of the famous Hollywood horror film “The Omen”.He later directed the thriller ‘Aduthathu’ which was his last release as a director on the big screen. The film featured actors like Nassar, Sriman, Vayapuri, Ilavarasu, Aarthi and Minal in pivotal roles.“Aduthathu” is based on the famous mystery novel “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie.Srinivasan also directed the murder mystery ‘Asokavanam’ which featured Livingstone, Sreeman and Riyaz Khan.
He became known for his charitable work in later years
In the last years of his life, Thakali Srinivasan gradually moved away from the film industry and devoted much of his time to humanitarian work.Reports from Cinema Express indicate that he was running the ashram and focusing on social service activities. According to reports, the director was living with his adopted children during this stage of his life while continuing his charitable work.
Thakali Srinivasan’s final rites are scheduled to be performed in Bengaluru on Wednesday, March 11.
